How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Thai. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Thai translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Thai translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Thai translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Thai translation

  • Choose certified

When an authority requires an official, certified translation: the Home Office, courts, notaries, registrars or a foreign government. Escalated to notarisation or FCDO apostille where needed.

  • Choose standard

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

Not sure? Send your document and we will advise which form the receiving authority expects.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Thai

Many teams speak good Thai and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Thai texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • No spaces between words

    Voorbeeld:

Thai places no spaces between words within a sentence, only between sentences or clauses. Automated tools break lines in the wrong place.

    Onze aanpak:

Our Thai translators and DTP specialists apply word and line breaks at the correct lexical boundaries — essential for readability and correct display.

  • Confusing Thai and Lao

    Voorbeeld:

Thai and Lao are closely related and partly mutually intelligible in speech, but they use different scripts and are separate languages.

    Onze aanpak:

We never substitute Lao for Thai or vice versa, and we pair each document with a translator for the correct language.

  • Inconsistent romanisation

    Voorbeeld:

Proper names and places are often romanised in several ways, which leads to mismatches with passports and official registers.

    Onze aanpak:

We follow the RTGS system of the Royal Society of Thailand, but keep an existing spelling where it already appears on a passport or official document.

  • Register and politeness level

    Voorbeeld:

Thai has pronounced politeness and hierarchy registers; a tone that is too informal reads as inappropriate in a formal or government context.

    Onze aanpak:

We set the register per project to suit the purpose and the reader, from tourism content to an official certificate.

Waar Thai wordt gesproken

Thai is not a single spoken language, but it is a single written one. The Bangkok norm — Standard Central Thai — governs all official and business documents, while Lanna, Isan and Southern Thai are regional spoken varieties. We always translate written Thai in the Central Thai norm and match terminology and register to the purpose of your document, from a marriage certificate to a product file for the Thai market.

Which variant of Thai does Ecrivus deliver by default?
We deliver Standard Central Thai (the Bangkok norm, th-TH) by default — the written and business standard. The regional varieties (Northern Thai/Lanna, Northeastern Thai/Isan, Southern Thai) are spoken dialects that share the same written language; for audiovisual content we match the register per project. There is one written norm for official Thai documents, and we hold to it throughout.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify a Thai translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
How does Ecrivus handle the absence of spaces between Thai words?
Thai uses no spaces between words within a sentence, only between sentences or clauses. Our Thai translators and DTP specialists apply word and line breaks at the correct lexical boundaries, which is essential for readability and correct display in your document or layout. Automated line-breaking tools tend to split words in the wrong place, so we set this by hand where the layout calls for it.
How does Ecrivus handle the romanisation of Thai proper names?
We follow the Royal Thai General System (RTGS) of the Royal Society of Thailand for the romanisation of proper names, places and official terms. Where a name already appears in a different romanisation, for instance on a passport, we keep the existing spelling so that everything aligns with your official documents. Consistent romanisation prevents mismatches with passports and registers.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
What if I need a legal document translated into or from Thai?
For legal Thai translation — contracts, deeds, judgments, articles of association — we pair you with a translator who has a legal background and a knowledge of Thai law, and we provide certified translation where an authority requires it. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification and the closing statement of accuracy. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
Why choose a Thai translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Thai translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the native specialist who fits your document and sector, work in the Central Thai written norm, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, romanisation, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
