Pricing logic
Translation work has no fixed catalogue price. The billing unit depends on what you have translated. Per word for business texts, per page for certified documents, per half-day for interpreting. Below you can see which unit goes with which kind of work.

Contracts, annual reports, manuals and websites. The per-word rate scales with the language combination, subject matter and scope.

Interpreting on site or remotely. Travel time and interpreting equipment are added as separate items.
Cost factors
Every business translation project is different. The final price depends on these six factors together.
Common pairs such as English-Dutch are generally more affordable than rare combinations, because more qualified translators are available. For less common languages such as Icelandic, Khmer or Swahili the supply is smaller, and that is reflected in the price.
A legal contract, medical protocol or technical manual calls for a subject specialist with domain knowledge. Specialist texts require more preparation and terminology checking, so the rate differs from that for general texts.
For larger volumes from around 10,000 words, volume discounts are possible. Need the work urgently? We deploy additional translators and a rush surcharge applies. We confirm the achievable lead time in the quote.
A certified (sworn) translation is produced by a court-registered translator and carries a stamp and signature. That legal framework brings additional costs compared with a standard translation. In the UK this corresponds to registers and bodies such as NRPSI, the CIOL and the ITI.
Editable files such as Word or Excel are quick for us to process. Scanned documents, PDFs or layout files (InDesign, Illustrator) may require additional DTP work. We deliver in your preferred format, including any formatting.
A full translation by a native speaker is different work from machine translation with human post-editing (MTPE). Whether a second linguist reviews the text depends on the field, the risk and the scope. Those choices help determine the price; we advise what suits your document.
Which translation do you need?
The form a receiving body requires determines both the process and the price. Three forms are the most common.
For official use.
Produced by a court-registered translator, with stamp, signature and an attached source document. Required for the Home Office, councils, courts and foreign authorities.
Charged per page.
For bodies that do not require a sworn version.
A translation with a statement of accuracy from the translation agency, without court certification. Some foreign universities and employers accept this. If you are unsure which form the receiving body requires, we look into it with you.

For business and commercial texts.
Contracts, annual reports, manuals, websites and marketing copy without official status. Here we charge per word, at a rate that depends on the language combination, subject matter and scope.

Legalisation
If you want to use a Dutch document abroad, the destination country often asks for a certification on top of the translation. Which route applies depends on the country.
Legalisation is a separate cost alongside the translation. We confirm the costs and the lead time in the quote, because they depend on the route and the body involved.
For countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention 1961, a single certification is enough: the apostille, issued by the court. We handle that visit to the court for you.
If the destination country is not party to the Convention, legalisation runs through the ministry and that country's embassy. That has its own route and lead time.
Interpreting services
We charge for interpreting per half-day or per day, not per word. The price depends on the language combination, the length of the assignment, and whether the interpreting is on site or remote.
For conferences and hearings, travel time and interpreting equipment are added as separate items. We confirm the full set-up and the achievable schedule in the quote.

A machine translation is post-edited by a human linguist. Suitable for larger volumes with lower risk, at a lower rate than full human translation.
Whether a second linguist reviews the text depends on the field, the risk and the scope. We match that depth to your document, not to a fixed rate.
For CAT tools we work with Trados, Phrase and memoQ; for AI support with DeepL Pro, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, among others. Final revision rests with a human subject specialist. The workflow is GDPR-compliant.
A translation that is right on terminology and tone does its job: it opens a new market or keeps your document legally valid. The right translator costs a little more than the cheapest option and earns that difference back in results that last.

A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is signed by everyone, including freelance linguists and revisers. Your files are not reused without your permission.
Price build-up
We get this question regularly. For bespoke translation projects a fixed per-word price would often be wrong. A medical protocol from Japanese into Dutch differs greatly from a marketing text English-German, and a certified birth certificate calls for a different process than the localisation of a webshop.
A uniform rate would be too high for one project and too low for another. By preparing every quote individually, you pay a price that matches the actual complexity and scope of your project. For certified documents, the fixed rates shown above apply.
