UK tourism authorities and standards

For UK tourism and hospitality translation we work within established sector conventions: hotel classification, EU Allergen Directive 1169/2011 (still aligned post-Brexit), UK GDPR for guest data, and the positioning of national tourism bodies.

How do you translate cultural-fit for different traveller markets?
Cultural adaptation in tourism goes beyond translation. Our native translators with destination-marketing experience know the booking conventions (American market expects more than European), imagery expectations (Asian luxury expects different room visuals than European), and tone of voice per market. For DMO campaigns we often coordinate directly with local creatives.
Do you work with booking platforms like Booking, Airbnb, Expedia?
We deliver content for all common booking platforms. For Booking.com and Expedia: listing titles and descriptions, amenities mapping, review responses. For Airbnb: listing content, host bio, automated guest messages. Integration via XML/CSV export or directly via channel manager software.
How do you handle DTP for travel brochures?
Travel brochures require more than text translation — DTP is essential for image-heavy layouts. We work natively in InDesign and Figma; text expansion is precalculated (German +20%, French +15%, Italian +10%, Chinese -50%). For accents, ligatures and non-Latin scripts we use OpenType fonts.
Can you also interpret for international conferences?
Our interpreting hub delivers simultaneous interpreting for conferences (4-channel+ in Bosch or Sennheiser booths), consecutive interpreting for smaller meetings, and remote interpreting (RSI) via Interprefy / KUDO. For MICE events we often deliver a package: interpreters plus written materials plus equipment. AIIC technical standards followed.
What does a tourism translation cost?
Tourism translation overlaps with marketing translation in pricing. Indicative £0.09–£0.16 per word for brochure and website content (full human with cultural adaptation); transcreation of campaigns in the upper bracket. DTP priced separately per page. Package pricing available for recurring deliverables.
Which languages do you translate tourism content into?
We cover all relevant source markets for European and UK tourism. Our translators often work within a specific niche (luxury hotels, adventure travel, MICE, heritage, culinary). For rare languages we plan slightly more time due to specialist translator availability.
Do you also work with AI / DeepL for tourism?
AI is suited to scalable product content (hotel listings, FAQs, generic content). Our MTPE workflow combines DeepL Pro / OpenAI with human post-editing. For brochure content, DMO campaigns and storytelling we don't use unreviewed machine translation — cultural adaptation requires human creativity and market insight.
