How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Romanian. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Romanian translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Romanian translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Romanian translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Romanian

Many teams speak good Romanian and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Romanian texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Lost diacritics

    Voorbeeld:

Without the marks ă, â, î, ș, ț the meaning shifts: 'fata' (girl) versus 'față' (face), 'tara' versus 'țara' (the country).

    Onze aanpak:

We deliver with correct diacritics in a character set your system can handle, and check the rendering on delivery.

  • Cyrillic versus Latin Moldovan

    Voorbeeld:

Older Moldovan records appear in Cyrillic script; a direct conversion into Romanian without transcription causes readability and recognition problems with UK authorities.

    Onze aanpak:

We transcribe the Cyrillic source into Latin script, label the source variant in delivery and align with the receiving authority.

  • Slavic loanwords as a trap

    Voorbeeld:

Romanian looks Romance but carries Slavic loanwords; a translator without a Romanian background may pick an Italian- or French-sounding equivalent that is unusual in Romania.

    Onze aanpak:

The work goes to a native Romanian specialist who knows the term in everyday use across Romania and Moldova.

  • False legal equivalence

    Voorbeeld:

A UK 'Companies House' registration is not one-for-one the Romanian 'Registrul Comerțului'; company forms and job titles differ between legal systems.

    Onze aanpak:

Per project we match role, office and authority names to the Romanian legal system, working with your legal adviser where needed.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Romanian wordt gesproken

Romanian is largely a single market: Romania and Moldova have shared the same standard since 2013. The pitfalls lie elsewhere. Older Moldovan records can appear in Cyrillic script, and the diacritics (ă, â, î, ș, ț) are easily stripped by mishandled files — which changes the meaning of words. We match script, terminology and register to the country where your document will be read, and confirm that choice up front in the quote.

What is the difference between Romanian and Moldovan?
Since 2013, Romanian has been the official language of Moldova (ro-MD), with the same standard as Romanian in Romania (ro-RO). Before that, the term 'Moldovan' (mo) was used and the text could appear in Cyrillic script. Older Moldovan deeds and archive documents may therefore be in Cyrillic; we transcribe these into Latin script where needed and label the source variant in delivery.
Which variant of Romanian does Ecrivus deliver by default?
Standard Romanian (ro-RO), aligned with the Romanian Academy norm. For Moldovan files we deliver the same standard (ro-MD), identical since 2013. Aromanian (`rup`) is a separate ISO-coded language and we never auto-substitute it; we confirm the variant you need in the quote. The single most important point with Romanian is the diacritics — ă, â, î, ș, ț carry meaning, so we deliver and check them across the whole document.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify a Romanian translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance our Romanian translation agency provides certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does a Romanian document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Romania has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 2001 and Moldova since 2007. Official Romanian and Moldovan documents — birth and marriage certificates, court rulings, notarial deeds — are legalised for UK use via an apostille issued by the Romanian Ministry of Justice or Foreign Affairs, and by the Moldovan Ministry of Justice respectively. We advise on which route your document needs and can arrange UK-side legalisation through the FCDO. See GOV.UK for the official process: https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised
Which professional bodies do you work with for Romanian translation?
We work with native specialist translators and reference the recognised UK professional bodies — the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting), the CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists) and, for interpreting, the NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters). These are bodies of reference for the profession; we name them so you can see the standard the work is held to.
Which document types are most commonly translated into or from Romanian?
Common document types include employment contracts and agency agreements, company extracts and registrations, birth and marriage certificates, court documents and EU procedural files, technical manuals for construction and transport, and IT documentation. UK-specific cases we handle often are Home Office and UKVI immigration documents, university admissions assessed by UK ENIC and HMCTS court documents. We confirm the approach and any certification per document in the quote.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour, once we have confirmed the document type, volume, language direction (RO→EN or EN→RO) and required certification level. The lead time for the translation itself depends on those same factors and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
Why choose a Romanian translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Romanian translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and sector, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
