How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Turkish. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Turkish translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Turkish translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Turkish translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Turkish translation

  • Choose certified

When an authority requires an official, certified translation: the Home Office, courts, notaries, registrars or a foreign government. Escalated to notarisation or FCDO apostille where needed.

  • Choose standard

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

Not sure? Send your document and we will advise which form the receiving authority expects.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Turkish

Many teams speak good Turkish and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Turkish texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Arabic script on older deeds

    Voorbeeld:

A birth or property deed predating 1928 is written in Ottoman Turkish using Arabic script and cannot be read by a translator who only works in modern Turkish.

    Onze aanpak:

We coordinate historical documents with a translator who handles Ottoman palaeography; request a quote with a scan of the document.

  • Vowel harmony and agglutination

    Voorbeeld:

Turkish adds meaning by attaching suffixes to a word stem and follows vowel harmony. A word-for-word translation from English produces grammatically incorrect forms.

    Onze aanpak:

A native translator rewrites the sentence into correctly agglutinated Turkish that fits the register your reader expects.

  • Diaspora Turkish versus the TDK norm

    Voorbeeld:

Older vocabulary and English loanwords circulate in the Turkish-speaking UK community; they have no place in an official document for a Turkish authority.

    Onze aanpak:

For official documents we deliver Standard Istanbul Turkish (tr-TR) to the TDK norm and confirm that up front in the quote.

  • False legal equivalence

    Voorbeeld:

A Turkish "noter" is not identical to a UK notary public, and Turkish family-law concepts — such as guardianship or matrimonial property — differ from English family law.

    Onze aanpak:

We match legal concepts and office titles to the legal system of the target reader, working with your solicitor or notary where needed.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Turkish wordt gesproken

Turkish is not only the language of Turkey. The largest Turkish-speaking communities outside the country are in Germany and the Netherlands, while the UK is home to roughly 150,000 Turkish nationals and a similar number of Turkish Cypriots, concentrated in north London. Cross-border cases — family reunification, divorce, inheritance, diploma recognition — call for a translator who understands both the Turkish and the British system. A document issued in Turkey follows the TDK norm, whereas diaspora Turkish sometimes carries older vocabulary or loanwords from the host language. We match terminology and register to where your document will be read, and confirm that choice up front in the quote.

Which variety of Turkish does Ecrivus deliver by default?
We deliver Standard Istanbul Turkish (tr-TR), the TDK norm, for all official and business documents. Cypriot Turkish (tr-CY) and diaspora variants are confirmed per project — relevant for family matters or documents from Northern Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot community in the UK. Mixing the TDK norm with diaspora vocabulary in an official document is a common reason it is questioned by a Turkish authority, so we hold to a single variant throughout.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify a Turkish translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance — Home Office visa and asylum applications, family courts, civil registries and naturalisation — our Turkish translation agency provides certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does a Turkish document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Turkey has been a contracting party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 1985. Turkish certificates, diplomas and notarial documents are legalised with an apostille from the competent Turkish authority — the district authority (Kaymakamlık) or the provincial governor (Valilik). For a UK document going to Turkey, legalisation runs the other way through the FCDO. We guide you on the correct route and confirm which steps apply to your document. See [GOV.UK — Get a document legalised](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised).
Does Ecrivus also handle Ottoman Turkish documents in Arabic script?
Yes. Documents predating the 1928 script reform — old birth or marriage registers, archive deeds, property papers — are written in Ottoman Turkish using Arabic script. We coordinate these projects with translators who handle Ottoman palaeography. Please request a quote with a scan of the document so we can confirm the approach and lead time.
Which document types does Ecrivus translate to or from Turkish?
Common cases are Home Office visa and asylum applications, family-reunification documents, birth and marriage certificates, divorce decrees and custody orders, diplomas, supplier contracts and technical manuals for the textile and automotive sectors. Certification is provided where the authority requires it; standard professional translation covers your everyday business documents. We confirm the approach per document in the quote.
What if I need a legal Turkish document translated?
For legal Turkish translation — contracts, divorce and custody dossiers, judgments and notarial deeds — we pair you with a legally trained translator and deliver certified versions where the court or authority requires it. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification, the closing statement of accuracy and the difference between Turkish and English legal concepts. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a reply within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
Why choose a Turkish translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Turkish translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and subject, arrange certification, notarisation or apostille where the Home Office, a court or a registry requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, the apostille route, scheduling and delivery — including Ottoman documents and cross-border family matters — all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
