Services for your firm

Legal — our most-requested services

Examples from our legal-sector practice

Cross-border M&A due diligence in 3 languages

On cross-border acquisitions we deliver contracts, shareholder agreements and NDAs across three languages in parallel. Confidential transfer via encrypted channel, with central terminology management so all language versions stay legally consistent across the whole deal set. UK GDPR-aligned DPA available for data-room access.

Legal translation

Certified diplomas for Home Office and immigration cases

For UK Home Office submissions and international academic recognition we provide certified translations carrying the translator's statement of truth, qualifications and signature, with the source document attached. FCDO apostille routing arranged when destination jurisdictions require Hague Convention 1961 legalisation.

Certified translation

International employment dispute — pleadings and evidence

In cross-border employment cases we translate pleadings, witness statements and documentary evidence for use in the Employment Tribunal or High Court. Translators understand the difference between civil-law and common-law procedure so the legal force of every document is preserved. Achievable deadlines are confirmed in the quote based on your hearing date.

Legal translation

International incorporation — articles of association and notarial deed

For incorporating a UK limited company abroad — or a foreign entity for UK founders — we translate articles of association, the incorporation deed and notarial powers of attorney. Translation by a translator with the relevant qualifications (CIOL Chartered Linguist or ITI MITI), with statement of truth where required; apostille routing via FCDO Services or consular legalisation depending on the destination.

Why UK organisations choose Ecrivus for legal translation

A single project-manager point of contact

One Maastricht-based project manager coordinates your legal instructions across multi-locale matters, M&A timelines and hearing deadlines — no churn between accounts.

NRPSI-eligible linguists where the assignment requires it

For HMCTS hearings, Home Office matters and public-service interpreting, we work with linguists eligible for the National Register of Public Service Interpreters. Certified translations carry a translator’s statement of truth.

Confidentiality at every layer

NDA as standard on every assignment; your firm’s own NDA is signed without amendment where reasonable. GDPR-aligned data processing agreement (DPA) available on request for matters with strict compliance requirements.

Specialist legal linguists by area of practice

Linguists with a legal background or extensive sector experience in your area of practice — commercial contracts, litigation, M&A, IP, family law or immigration — never generic translators.

Since 2006

A trusted UK legal translation partner since 2006 — 20+ years specialising in translation where the legal nuance matters.

Authorities and registers

UK legal authorities and registers we work with

The UK does not operate a single sworn-translator register equivalent to continental-European systems. Authority anchors are professional bodies (CIOL, ITI), the NRPSI register for public-service interpreters, HMCTS for court instructions and the FCDO for apostille and consular legalisation under the Hague Convention 1961.

Do your translators work to NRPSI / CIOL / ITI standards?
The UK does not operate a single sworn-translator register equivalent to continental-European systems. Authority-anchors are professional bodies (CIOL, ITI) and the NRPSI register for interpreters. Our linguists with public-service interpreting work are eligible for NRPSI registration where applicable. Our translation work follows CIOL and ITI good-practice guidance — for example, certified translations carry a translator's statement of truth, and our internal QA aligns with the principles in CIOL's certified-translation guidance and ITI's professional code of conduct.
We have our own NDA — will you sign it?
Many firms operate to a standard NDA template. We sign without amendment provided the terms are mutually reasonable. Our linguists hold individual confidentiality agreements with Ecrivus — your NDA covers the firm-to-agency relationship, our internal NDA covers the agency-to-linguist relationship. For organisations with strict compliance requirements (DPA Article 28 controllers and processors) we provide a GDPR-aligned DPA on request. Documents are exchanged via secure channels.
How quickly can you turn around a court bundle for a hearing?
We respond to rush requests within 1 hour on working days. Turnaround itself is confirmed in the quote, calibrated to document type, volume, language pair, certification needs and the hearing date. For court bundles with a fixed hearing deadline we use multiple specialist translators in parallel where needed. We make no fixed turnaround promise upfront — instead we communicate transparently what is feasible and commit to that deadline in writing in the quote. Weekend rush work is available.
Do I need an FCDO apostille on my translation for use abroad?
Document authentication for overseas use depends on the destination country. The Hague Apostille Convention 1961 simplifies authentication between member states — an FCDO apostille from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirms the authenticity of the signature on a certified translation or original. For non-member countries, consular legalisation through the destination country's embassy is required in addition. We can manage the full route — certification, FCDO apostille and onward consular legalisation — as a single package.
How much does a legal translation cost?
Our pricing follows UK market standard for specialist legal translation. Indicatively: commercial-legal £0.10–£0.22 per word depending on language pair and complexity; certified translations are priced per page for short documents (typically £45–£95 for a one-page certificate). For repeat clients we use translation memory which delivers 20–40% savings on recurring segments. Volume discounts apply for M&A due diligence and multi-jurisdiction projects.
Which languages do you cover for legal translation?
We translate into and from more than 225 languages. For routine commercial work (English to French, German, Spanish, Italian) we maintain a deep bench of specialist legal linguists per area of practice. For rare languages — often relevant in Home Office immigration, asylum tribunal proceedings or international family law — we recommend wider planning to allow availability of a specifically certified linguist.
Do you use AI / DeepL for legal translation?
Machine translation alone is not adequate for legal text — terminology precision and legal-cultural context matter. We use DeepL Pro, OpenAI and Anthropic as productivity tools for draft translation, followed by full human post-editing and review by a specialist legal linguist. For court bundles, sworn translations and pleadings we deliver fully human work. For very large volumes of commercial-legal baseline material an MTPE workflow with a legal post-editor can be a cost-efficient route — discussed and quoted explicitly.
