How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Hungarian. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Hungarian translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Hungarian translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Hungarian translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Hungarian translation

  • Choose certified

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Hungarian

Many teams speak good Hungarian and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Hungarian texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Cases used incorrectly

    Voorbeeld:

Hungarian has 18 grammatical cases that express functions English handles with prepositions (in, to, with, for). The wrong case changes the meaning of a sentence.

    Onze aanpak:

A native or university-trained translator chooses the right case for each context; at review we check case choice against meaning.

  • Word order and focus

    Voorbeeld:

Hungarian marks emphasis through word order, not through stress or bold type. A word-for-word English order puts the emphasis on the wrong part of the sentence.

    Onze aanpak:

We rewrite the sentence so the key element sits before the verb, as Hungarian requires.

  • Hungarian name order

    Voorbeeld:

In Hungarian the surname comes before the given name (Kovács János). Reversing it carelessly in certificates and official documents causes confusion about identity.

    Onze aanpak:

In certified translations we keep the source order and explain it, so the receiving authority recognises the person correctly.

  • False kinship with neighbouring languages

    Voorbeeld:

Because Hungarian is surrounded by Slavic and Romance languages, translators sometimes assume terminology overlaps — but Hungarian is not Indo-European and does not share that vocabulary.

    Onze aanpak:

We assign only translators with demonstrable Hungarian source-language command and work from a per-project terminology list.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Hungarian wordt gesproken

Hungarian is not read in Hungary alone. Large Hungarian-speaking communities live in Transylvania (Romania), southern Slovakia, the Serbian Vojvodina and Ukrainian Zakarpattia, alongside a sizeable diaspora in the United States and Germany. The written standard is the Budapest norm everywhere, but the authority your document lands on differs by country. We match terminology and the certification route to the place where your document will be used, and confirm that choice up front in the quote.

Why is Hungarian so different from its neighbouring languages?
Hungarian is a Finno-Ugric language and does not belong to the Indo-European family, unlike German, Slovak, Romanian or Serbian. Its closest relatives are Finnish and Estonian. Hungarian has 18 grammatical cases, no grammatical gender and an agglutinative structure. This makes direct translation from Indo-European languages more demanding, so we assign only translators with demonstrable Hungarian source-language command.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify a Hungarian translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does a Hungarian document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Hungary has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 1973. Official Hungarian documents — birth and marriage certificates, court judgments, notarial deeds and company register extracts — are legalised for use abroad with an apostille issued by the relevant Hungarian ministry. For UK use we then provide the certified English translation and, where required, arrange notarisation or an FCDO apostille on the UK side. We confirm the route in the quote. You can check current legalisation requirements at [GOV.UK — Get a document legalised](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised).
What document types are most commonly translated into or from Hungarian?
Common cases include automotive work instructions and quality documentation, pharmaceutical leaflets and SmPCs, supplier and employment contracts, personal documents (birth certificates, diplomas and transcripts, company extracts), court documents and EU funding dossiers. UK-specific cases we handle often are Home Office and UKVI immigration documents, university admissions assessed by UK ENIC and HMCTS court documents. We confirm the approach and any certification per document in the quote.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
How does Ecrivus verify the quality of a Hungarian translation?
We combine native specialist translators with a structured QA layer: a terminology list, a style guide and a second review where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. For Hungarian we pay particular attention to case choice, word order and name order in certificates. CAT tools (Trados, memoQ, Phrase TMS) keep terminology consistent across volume and repeated content, and a translation memory keeps follow-up work aligned and lowers the cost over time.
Which professional bodies do you work with for Hungarian translation?
We work with native specialist translators and reference the recognised UK professional bodies — the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting), the CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists) and, for interpreting, the NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters). These are bodies of reference for the profession; we name them so you can see the standard the work is held to, not as a membership or certification claim.
Why choose a Hungarian translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Hungarian translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and sector, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer. For a Finno-Ugric language with 18 cases that match matters to the quality of the result. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
