How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Slovak. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Slovak translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Slovak translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Slovak translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Slovak translation

  • Choose certified

When an authority requires an official, certified translation: the Home Office, courts, notaries, registrars or a foreign government. Escalated to notarisation or FCDO apostille where needed.

  • Choose standard

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

Not sure? Send your document and we will advise which form the receiving authority expects.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Slovak

Many teams speak good Slovak and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Slovak texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Slovak handled by a Czech translator

    Voorbeeld:

Having a Slovak document translated by a Czech translator because the languages look alike — the receiving authority spots the Czech spelling and word choice straight away.

    Onze aanpak:

We always pair your job with a native Slovak translator, with the correct Slovak terminology and spelling.

  • Lost diacritics

    Voorbeeld:

Slovak uses characters such as č, ľ, ô and ŕ. If they drop out in conversion or formatting, the meaning shifts or the document becomes unreadable.

    Onze aanpak:

We deliver in correct Slovak character encoding and check every diacritic at the review stage.

  • Underestimated cases and inflection

    Voorbeeld:

Slovak has six grammatical cases. A word-for-word rendering from English produces sentences that are grammatically wrong and read as incorrect to a formal reader.

    Onze aanpak:

A native translator rewrites the sentence structure so that cases and inflection are right for the Slovak register.

  • False legal equivalence

    Voorbeeld:

An English legal term does not always have a direct Slovak counterpart; the Slovak legal system has its own concepts and institutions.

    Onze aanpak:

We match legal terms to Slovak and EU law per project, working with your legal adviser where needed.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Slovak wordt gesproken

Slovak looks a great deal like Czech, but they are two separate languages with their own regulator and their own spelling. Hand a Slovak contract to a Czech translator on the assumption that the languages are close enough, and you get terminology and spelling that the receiving authority spots at once. We pair your document with a native Slovak translator and match terminology and register to the purpose of the text, whether that is an automotive supplier in Žilina or a registry office in the UK.

What is the difference between Slovak and Czech?
Slovak and Czech are closely related West Slavic languages with around 95% mutual intelligibility in speech. Since the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993 they have been two separate official languages, with distinct ISO codes (sk and cs), separate regulators and their own spelling standards. We never treat them as one language: a Slovak document always goes to a native Slovak translator, with Slovak terminology and spelling throughout.
How do you certify a Slovak translation for use in the UK?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance our Slovak translation agency provides certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does a Slovak document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Slovakia has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 2002. Official Slovak documents are legalised for UK use via an apostille issued by the Slovak Ministry of Justice or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a document issued in the UK for use in Slovakia is legalised through the FCDO. We guide you to the right route and confirm the approach in the quote. See [GOV.UK — Get a document legalised](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised).
What document types do you most often translate into or from Slovak?
Common cases are automotive manuals and quality documentation (suppliers to the car plants in Slovakia), supplier and framework agreements, contracts, birth and marriage certificates, court documents and EU procedural files. UK-specific cases we handle often include Home Office and UKVI immigration documents, registry-office registrations and HMCTS court documents. We confirm the approach and any certification per document in the quote.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language direction and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
How does Ecrivus verify the quality of a Slovak translation?
We combine native Slovak specialist translators with a structured QA layer: a terminology list, a style guide and a second review where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. CAT tools (Trados, memoQ, Phrase TMS) keep terminology and the Slovak diacritics consistent across volume and repeated content, and a translation memory keeps follow-up work aligned and lowers the cost over time. We reference the recognised UK professional bodies — the ITI, the CIOL and, for interpreting, the NRPSI — as the standard the work is held to.
What if I need a legal document translated into Slovak?
For legal Slovak translation — contracts, supplier agreements, articles of association, court documents — we pair you with a translator who has a legal background and match terminology to Slovak and EU law, since an English legal term does not always have a direct Slovak counterpart. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification and the closing statement of accuracy. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
Why choose a Slovak translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Slovak translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and sector, make sure your Slovak text is never handled by a Czech translator by mistake, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer. You keep one point of contact for terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
