Swedish translator

We deliver Standard Swedish (sv-SE) by default, the Stockholm norm regulated by Språkrådet. For work aimed at Finland — for example documents for Finnish authorities or Finland-Swedish municipalities — we deliver Finland Swedish (sv-FI). We confirm the variant per project in the quote, because mixing the two is the most common reason a Swedish translation reads as out of place to its intended reader.

Swedish, Norwegian and Danish form a dialect continuum (the Scandinavian languages) with good mutual intelligibility in writing. Even so, they are officially three separate languages with their own orthography and idiom. We never substitute one for another: a Swedish document is translated into Swedish, not into some blended "Nordic", and we assign a native Swedish translator.

The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance our Swedish translation agency provides certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Sweden is party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961), so Swedish public documents such as birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and notarial deeds can be legalised with an apostille, issued in Sweden by the county administrative board (länsstyrelsen) or a notary. For a Swedish translation to be accepted by a UK body, we set up the certified-translation and document chain to match what the receiving authority requires, and confirm the route in the quote.
