How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Estonian. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Estonian translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Estonian translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Estonian translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Estonian translation

  • Choose certified

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Estonian

Many teams speak good Estonian and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Estonian texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Confusing Estonian with Finnish

    Voorbeeld:

Estonian and Finnish look very similar (~70% intelligible), but they are separate languages with their own ISO codes (et and fi) and their own regulators.

    Onze aanpak:

We never treat Estonian and Finnish as one language and assign a translator for the correct target language.

  • Ignoring cases and agglutination

    Voorbeeld:

With 14 grammatical cases, Estonian expresses many relationships through endings rather than prepositions; a word-for-word approach from English breaks down.

    Onze aanpak:

A native translator restructures the sentence into correct Estonian rather than copying the English word order.

  • Diacritics lost in formatting

    Voorbeeld:

ä, ö, õ and ü drop out under the wrong character encoding, which corrupts names and terms.

    Onze aanpak:

We deliver in correct Unicode encoding and check names, certificates and official terms at the review stage.

  • Translating Estonian bodies and terms literally

    Voorbeeld:

The names of Estonian registers, deeds and job titles do not always have a one-to-one English equivalent.

    Onze aanpak:

We match terminology to the Estonian and English context per project, working with your adviser where needed.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Estonian wordt gesproken

Estonian is spoken by a relatively small population, yet it sits at the centre of one of the most digitised economies in the EU. Documents range from an e-Residency company registration to a birth certificate or a fintech contract. We match each type to a translator who knows the right register and terminology, and confirm the approach and any certification up front in the quote.

What is the difference between Estonian and Finnish?
Both are Finno-Ugric languages with around 70% mutual intelligibility and a great deal of shared basic grammar (agglutinative, no grammatical gender, many cases), but they are separate official languages with their own ISO codes (et and fi) and their own regulators. Estonian has 14 grammatical cases, Finnish 15. We never treat them as one language and assign a translator for the specific target language.
How do you certify an Estonian translation for official use in the UK?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. As an Estonian translation agency we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does an Estonian document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Estonia has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 2001. Official Estonian public documents are legalised for international use with an apostille, issued by an Estonian notary or the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For a document issued in the UK and bound for Estonia, legalisation runs through the FCDO; you can check the route on [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised). We tell you which route applies per document type.
Which documents are most commonly translated into or from Estonian?
Common document types include contracts, e-Estonia and e-Residency company registrations, fintech compliance, annual reports, birth and marriage certificates, court documents and technical manuals. We confirm the approach and any certification per document type in the quote.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
What if I need a legal document translated into Estonian?
For legal Estonian translation — contracts, articles of association, judgments, notarial deeds — we pair you with a translator who has a legal background and deliver certified work where an authority requires it. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification, the closing statement of accuracy and terminology between the Estonian and English legal systems. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
Why choose an Estonian translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
An Estonian translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and sector, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. You keep one point of contact for terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; with Estonian, where the pool of translators is smaller than for the major languages, the difference an agency adds is arranging the right match and the supporting steps for you.
