How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Tagalog. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Tagalog translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Tagalog translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Tagalog translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Tagalog

Many teams speak good Tagalog and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Tagalog texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Document and source-language confusion

    Voorbeeld:

Official Philippine documents are often already in English or bilingual (English/Filipino) — PSA certificates and CENOMAR statements among them — so paying for a Tagalog translation can be unnecessary.

    Onze aanpak:

We establish the true source language before assuming a Tagalog translation is needed, so you do not pay for work the document does not require.

  • Taglish and informal register

    Voorbeeld:

Heavy Spanish and English loanwords plus code-switching ('Taglish') make source segmentation and register choice difficult.

    Onze aanpak:

Informal Taglish has no place in legal or official translation; we recast the text into correct, formal register for your reader.

  • Affix and focus system

    Voorbeeld:

The extensive affix and focus (trigger) system (mag-, -um-, i-, -in, ma-) differs fundamentally from the English subject/object model, so word-for-word translation quickly produces faulty sentence structure.

    Onze aanpak:

A specialist translator rewrites for idiomatic English or Tagalog rather than mirroring the source grammar.

  • Honorifics and proper names

    Voorbeeld:

Politeness markers such as 'po' and 'opo' have no direct English equivalent, and Filipino names often carry Spanish spelling (ñ, accents).

    Onze aanpak:

We make a deliberate register choice and carry names and place names through consistently as they appear in the source document.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Tagalog wordt gesproken

Tagalog travels with the Filipino diaspora. In the UK the work is usually civil-status documents for the Home Office and registrars, while in the Gulf states and at sea it is employment contracts for Filipino workers and seafarers. The document practice is distinctive: many official Philippine certificates are already issued in English or in a bilingual format. We establish which source language genuinely needs translating, and confirm the approach and any certification up front in the quote.

Is Tagalog the same as Filipino?
Not quite. Tagalog is the language on which Filipino, the national standard language of the Philippines, is based. Filipino is regulated by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) and is an official language alongside English. In practice we translate both; we match the right form to the authority that will receive your document.
My Philippine certificate already looks like it is in English — does it still need translating?
Often only in part. Many official Philippine documents, such as PSA certificates and CENOMAR statements, are already in English or bilingual. We establish which parts are genuinely in Tagalog and which are already usable, so you pay only for the translation that is needed and the UK authority receives a complete document. As a Tagalog translation agency we check this before quoting, rather than translating the whole document by default.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify a Tagalog translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
How quickly will I receive a quote for a Tagalog translation?
On working days you receive a reply within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For Home Office or consular deadlines we confirm a workable schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
Which Philippine documents with an apostille does Ecrivus translate?
We translate PSA birth certificates, marriage certificates, CENOMAR statements, diplomas and NBI clearances, among others. The Philippines acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) in 2019, so an apostille on the original replaces consular legalisation. We translate the document including the apostille, and confirm any further UK legalisation needs in the quote. You can check requirements via [GOV.UK — Get a document legalised](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised).
Which professional bodies do you work with for Tagalog translation?
We work with specialist translators who know Philippine document practice and reference the recognised UK professional bodies — the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting), the CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists) and, for interpreting, the NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters). These are bodies of reference for the profession; we name them so you can see the standard the work is held to.
Why choose a Tagalog translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Tagalog translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We establish the true source language of your Philippine document, select a translator who knows the document practice, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer. You keep one point of contact for source language, terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
