About this language pair

English and Greek: one pair, two directions

From English into Greek you translate for business partners, clients and authorities abroad; from Greek into English for UK authorities, banks and employers. In both directions a native specialist translator with domain experience works on your text.

Where an authority asks for a certified translation, we bring in a sworn translator. The translation carries the required declaration, signature and stamp, and we arrange the Apostille or consular legalisation your destination country demands.

Translation from English to Greek

English-to-Greek translation uses the Greek alphabet. We handle shipping documents (Bills of Lading, charter parties, P&I correspondence), EU funding, contracts and family-law deeds. For names we apply ELOT-743 transliteration, or follow the spelling on the Greek identity document for civil-register submissions.

Translation from Greek to English

Greek-to-English translations are delivered for UK courts, shipping companies and notaries. Certified translations on request via ITI- or CIOL-registered translators; Greece is an EU member and a contracting state of the Hague Convention (1961), so an apostille via the FCDO Legalisation Office is often required for use outside the EU.

In practice

How such a project runs

A company opens a branch abroad: website, employment contracts and product documentation go from English into Greek, while incorporation documents and bank records travel the other way. One project manager guards terminology and planning in both directions, and confirms per document whether certification or legalisation is required.

How does Ecrivus handle Greek-to-Latin script transliteration for English documents?
We use the ELOT-743 transliteration (Greek state standard, identical to ISO 843) by default for names and addresses. For Home Office and General Register Office submissions, we follow the spelling on the Greek identity document to avoid identity discrepancies.
Can Ecrivus deliver certified English-Greek translations for the Home Office and UK courts?
Yes, on request via ITI- or CIOL-registered translators. Greece is an EU member; for use outside the EU, an apostille via the FCDO Legalisation Office is often required.
Does Ecrivus translate maritime documents in this language pair?
Yes. Our Greek specialist translators work on Bills of Lading, charter parties, MOAs, P&I correspondence, IMO reports and MARPOL dossiers.
Which document types does Ecrivus regularly translate?
Maritime documents, EU funding documentation, contracts, judgments, birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and notarial deeds.
How quickly will I receive a quote?
We reply within 30 minutes on working days with an initial price and lead-time indication. The final lead time is confirmed in the quote.
